About Brevets and Randonneuring
Randonneuring is basically unsupported long-distance cycling. Events are timed and are run along a specific route which riders must follow. Completion of the event, on course and within the specified time limits is the goal. The rider may face many challenges during an event including bad weather, navigation, mechanicals, and one's own physical abilities. Riders are expected to be prepared for whatever they may encounter during their event and to meet these challenges. This style of riding is non-competitive, where determination and self-sufficiency often rule the day. Support is not provided at most events. Instead, riders must rely on what they have brought with them or what support they can find along the way. The Randonneur sets aside competition in favor of comraderie at these events. Helping a fellow rider is considered a very fine thing to do! All riders who complete an event, regardless of time are measured equally, with results listed alphabetically. The long distances and independence of this type of cycling allows riders to see just how much is possible for them.
About Southern Utah Brevet events
  • These events are sanctioned by Randonneurs USA and RUSA credit is available for these rides. RUSA membership is encouraged but not required to participate in Southern Utah Brevets. RUSA standards will apply to all Southern Utah Brevet events. No ACP credit is available for the 2007 events.
  • These rides are held rain or shine. The weather in southern Utah can change very rapidly, so riders must be prepared for any conditions that they may expect to encounter during their ride.
  • Riders on an SUBrevet event are considered to be on an individual ride and are responsible for their own safety and support during their ride.
  • There are no organized rest stops such as you might find at other events like supported rides or centuries. Riders must bring their own support such as food, drinks etc, or find what they need along the way
  • The route will not be marked in any way. Riders are expected to navigate from the provided cue sheet and map, or from other resources the rider may have brought (such as GPS).
  • Riders can expect no support vehicle to be on the course to assist riders. Official vehicles may be on the course when headed to checkpoints, but their primary responsiblity will be to the event.
  • Like all brevets there will be checkpoints where riders are required to check in to prove they have completed each leg of the route within the time limits. Pay attention to fulfilling these requirements to avoid the dreaded DQ!
  • There will be no bag drop on the 200k or 300k events as there are many good opportunities for support on these routes. We will offer a bag drop service on the 400k and 600k events.
  • There will be restrooms and free parking at the designated starting location for each SUB event.
  • Southern Utah Brevet events are held under the auspices of the Color Country Cycling Club. CCCC membership is required for participation.
  • There will be a cost recovery fee for participating in Southern Utah Brevet events. We try to keep this fee minimal but it is required to cover the cost of insurance and processing of results.
